For example, JavaScipt powers the underlining of the links at the top and left of this page when your cursor moves over them. If you don't see this, you may not have a recent version of a browser from Netscape or Microsoft.

That's the major drawback of JavaScript. Though HTML is essentially compatible with all browsers in common use, JavaScript can be misunderstood by older browsers. This is gradually changing as older browsers are replaced by those capable of interpreting JavaScript.
